A brand new series for 2018, F3 Americas is following the regional F3 series concept that was announced by the FIA.
For 2018 there has been a limited schedule with car counts numbering 5 or less but it is expected that the category will grow in line with the US F4 Championship and as an alternative to the Road to Indy program.
The all-new F3-FIA spec Ligier JS F3 race car chassis is designed and built by Onroak Automotive in North Carolina, and meets the current global FIA safety specifications, including the first North American application of a race car halo. It is powered by the powerful and reliable 270-horsepower Honda Performance Development (HPD) version of the new Honda Civic® Type- R® turbocharged K20C1 motor and runs on proven Pirelli tires developed for this series. These tires are Pirelli P Zero, known for their positive feedback, grip, and consistency through the race event.
For the 2020 season Honda Performance Developments have announced the HPD Scholarship. Honda has announced it will support an entry into Indy Lights for one season for the winner of the Formula 3 Americas championship. The HPD Scholarship, which will be an annual prize and not just a one-off for the 2020 champion, will be directed at the Indy Lights team which the champion races at rather than the driver themselves. Honda has also confirmed that the prize fund can be used in IndyCar, where Honda engines are also used, if the champion moves straight up to America’s primary single-seater series.
