A 2011 Oak Pescarolo 01 Judd LMP1 Race Car sporting the classic Gulf livery is for sale in the Motorsport Prospects Marketplace from Sam Hancock this week and it is absolutely gorgeous. As Sam says, “With period history including Sebring and Le Mans, an iconic Gulf-livery, Judd-power, and proven, race-winning capabilities in Masters Endurance Legends, this sensational car ticks every box.

Overview

Prepared today by highly reputable British equipe, CGA Race Engineering, Pescarolo 01 Chassis 9 is offered in superb, race-ready condition.

Twice an overall victor in Masters Endurance Legends, and with a brace of further podiums, a pole position and multiple fastest laps to its name, this Pescarolo-Judd package is a certain championship contender.

Background

The Pescarolo 01 was the first sports prototype racing car built entirely by Pescarolo Sport and debuted in 2007. It was designed to meet the LMP1 and LMP2 regulations and replace Pescarolo’s previous C60 chassis which had been heavily modified from cars purchased from Courage Compétition.

The 2010 purchase of Pescarolo Automobiles by Jacques Nicolet’s Oak Racing concern saw the cars develop rapidly. Emboldened by substantial investment to the design and construction facilities, the Pescarolo 01 advanced enormously in readiness for the 2011 season.

Provenance

Starting life in LMP2 guise, Pescarolo 01 Chassis 9 contested four races as a works entry in 2010, recording podium finishes at both Petit Le Mans and the 1000kms of Hungary.

Upgraded to LMP1 specification for 2011, fitted with a 3.4L Judd V8, and re-liveried in the resplendent colours of Gulf Oils, it then contested the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the 1000kms of Silverstone in which it recorded another podium finish.

Static until 2018, the car was then completely rebuilt from the ground up by Oak Racing to its 2011 LMP1 specification – albeit now benefiting from a larger capacity, 4.4L Judd V8 engine (approved by Masters for Endurance Legends eligibility).

Racing again in 2019 for the first time in eight years, the car achieved a brace of podiums, including a clean sweep of pole position and two race wins at the Silverstone Classic edition of Masters’ Endurance Legends series.

Where Can I Race?

Here are just a few places where you can race this classic.

Sam Says

“Don’t be intimated by the dazzling display of switches, dials and under-the-skin componentry. With all of their gizmos and driver-aids, these cars are remarkably friendly to drive and suitable for most historic racers with a just few years’ experience under their belts. For those more competitive, you can consider this car a guaranteed invitation to the sharp end of the Masters grid and a certain title contender. ”
