The Car

(Description by seller)With a significant American Le Mans Series history, this former Dyson Racing Lola B12/60 has since proved triumphant in Masters Endurance Legends. Available now and ready to race.

With a pole position and five podiums to its name, and a former Team Bentley Le Mans winner among its drivers, Dyson Racing’s Lola B12/60, chassis HU02, certainly left its stamp on the 2013 American Le Mans Series.

Still propelled by the revered ‘jewel’ that is Mazda’s tiny but powerful four-cylinder turbo engine, HU02 continues to exploit its noted handling with six victories to date in the Masters Endurance Legends series.

Offered in truly race-ready condition, as proved by its recent win in a one-off appearance at this year’s Silverstone Classic, where it dominated Round 7 with a commanding performance (read more about that here).

“This is an awesome car. Once of the best balanced cars I’ve ever driven.”

— LE MANS WINNER, GUY SMITH

Poughkeepsie-based Dyson Racing finished second overall in the 2013 American Le Mans Series standings thanks, in large part, to five second-place finishes recorded by this car, chassis HU02.

Steered to these podiums largely by Le Mans winning Bentley-boy, Guy Smith, co-driving with two-time ALMS champion Chris Dyson, the roster also included a guest appearance from multiple sports car champion, Johnny Mowlem, who so nearly triumphed alongside Smith at Virginia having started from pole position.

“It was an amazing car. I can only imagine this is the closest thing possible to driving a fighter plane on the ground.”

— SEBRING & DAYTONA CLASS WINNER, JOHNNY MOWLEM

As for all privateer teams, third-party funding injections from amateur drivers were occasionally required, but were particularly welcome when accompanied by sufficient talent to contribute to the run of podiums as Tony Burgess and Chris McMurray did so brilliantly, with two of those second place finishes secured under their stewardship in Austin and Road America.

With just four years to catch its breath at the end of its contemporary racing career, HU02 fired back into life as a ‘post historic’ racer, having had a complete chassis rebuild by Peter Chambers Automotive (UK) and engine rebuild by AER, before entering the European Masters Endurance Legends series in 2018-2019.

Driven consistently to the fore by Steve Tandy, HU02 beat a fierce grid of Peugeots, Aston Martins and MG Lolas to name but a few, en route to six outright victories to date.

“The B12/60’s other-worldly looks rightly suggest other-worldly performance – but that shouldn’t be interpreted as a car that’s tricky to handle. Far from it – compared to most cars in a typical historic paddock, this and others of its category can be considered fairly easy by comparison!

You’ve got traction control, power steering, a paddle-shift gearbox that blips the throttle for you on downshifts, carbon brakes that stop on a dime, and even a clutch that’s redundant once you’ve left the pits… there’s not a great deal left to do!

Obviously I’m being a bit facetious but, combined with their enormous slicks and huge aero, these cars are largely glued to the road and needn’t intimidate those of less experience.

The real challenge is to find that last second or two, but to get toward that stage is really quite achievable – particularly in a car of this capability.”
