Formula E Disrupts Global Sports Landscape As World’s First B Corp Certified Sport

The B Corp Certification recognizes Formula E’s decade-long leadership in using sport as a powerful force for positive change, delivering growth for business, meaningful impact for society, and real progress for the planet.
By securing this status, the series codifies its mission to ‘Make Progress Thrilling’, challenging a sports industry that has traditionally prioritized spectacle over systemic impact.
Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said: “We didn’t set out to join a club; we set out to break the rules of what a global sport is allowed to be. B Corp Certification is the proof that we are driven by a different energy, one where elite performance and world-moving purpose belong in the same story.
“Most see sustainability as a seminar or a boardroom box to tick; we see it happening at 200mph around a corner in your city. Whether it’s pioneering sustainable aviation fuel or engineering a 100% recyclable race car, we are here to show the world that progress isn’t just necessary, it’s visceral. This isn’t a milestone to celebrate standing still; it’s a license to go even faster.”
Julia Pallé, VP Sustainability, Formula E, said: “Becoming B Corp certified is a powerful recognition that electric racing can do more than inspire, it can drive real, measurable change. Formula E has always focused on impact – not just pledges supporting charities or carbon reduction – investing in renewable energy and working directly with local communities in every city we race.
“By joining the B Corp community, we will collaborate, challenge each other and deepen our impact across sport and industry.”
The Race looks at the implications of the decision to become a B Corp. “No sport, let alone any form of motorsport, has previously been awarded B Corp status so this is a major coup for Formula E and as such, it moves the ESG bar significantly higher and puts clear daylight between Formula E and any other racing series. It’s a move that might also curry favour with broadcasters when Formula E Operations sells its media rights – at least in some markets anyway.”
Mercedes-AMG F1 Engineers Major Sustainability Progress During 2025 Season

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is on track to become one of the most sustainable sports teams globally. During the 2025 season, they introduced a bio-based carbon fiber composite material, marking a milestone in sustainable motorsport. This innovation thrived in various conditions, contributing to significant race victories and proving the viability of eco-friendly materials in high-performance racing. Furthermore, the team implemented sustainable practices, such as a car-sharing initiative that cut down commuting miles and transitioned to electric logistics, aiming for a greener future in Formula One.
Alice Ashpitel, Head of Sustainability, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team: “As we look to the coming season, it’s rewarding to see the progress that our team made in 2025. Our progress would not have been possible without the contributions of our team members in Brackley and Brixworth, and the support of our partners and suppliers. There were many highlights in 2025 but the significance of applying a bio-based carbon fibre composite material to the W16 cannot be underestimated, and we are grateful to all of those involved. We look forward to 2026 as we work to shape a more sustainable future for Formula One.”

Sustainability, Range Set to Highlight Michelin’s New GTP Tire

At first glance, Michelin’s new Pilot Sport Endurance prototype tire reveals a the proverbial “wow” factor. Its tread looks highly unusual, with a glistening color and pattern that differs from any other prototype tire in motorsport. But its purpose is more than just stunning looks: it’s also about delivering equally stunning performance while achieving enhanced sustainability targets.
“The goal was to produce a racing tire with 50 percent recycled and renewable material in the tire, which is a first,” explained Hans Emmel, Michelin’s corporate racing manager for the WeatherTech Championship. “That was one of the stated targets. And in doing so, we didn’t want to lose performance.”
FIA Delays Sustainable Fuel Homologation Amid Reliability and Cost Concerns

One of the major innovations of the 2026 Formula 1 season, as well as of the new technical regulations, concerns the type of fuel that will be used by the cars. From this year onward, the top category is expected to adopt exclusively 100% sustainable fuels. However, just over a week before the start of the first pre-season tests, scheduled to take place in Barcelona, the FIA has decided to take a step back.
The governing body has granted a temporary exemption that will not make the use of this new fuel mandatory during the Spanish test sessions, nor during the subsequent tests in Bahrain.
