From Sim Racing to the Real Thing

Playing racing games for a living might seem like a road to nowhere, but YouTubers Jimmy Broadbent, Misha Charoudin and Super GT are on their way to compete in the 2024 Nürburgring 24H. “Racing on the Nürburgring, however, is a completely different ball game and is widely regarded as the most difficult racetrack in the world with 154 corners spanning 12.8 miles. As a result, Jimmy is racing with fellow YouTuber and Nürburgring veteran Misha Charoudin, as well as arguably the most preeminent Gran Turismo YouTuber and Jimmy’s good friend, Super GT.”

Max Verstappen has revealed how comparisons with Sim Racers in GT cars is helping him to dominate Formula 1. In an interview with former Red Bull driver David Coulthard, Verstappen stated that he competes against naturally quick drivers in the sim races. As a result, he considers them as tough condition and prides himself on standing out from them.

“Sim drivers, they’re so quick. It’s very interesting to see them drive because they don’t have any real experience of a car. But somehow when you look at how they are braking, how they control and it is how it should be. So it’s very interesting for me you know to then compare myself to them because they’re naturally quick on the sim and I’m naturally quick on real life. So in downtime, I’m also trying to improve my time, which I think also helps me in real life,” further asserted the Red Bull driver.

The demand for karting and sim racing in the Bahamas is growing. Susan Schauff, vice president of the Bahamas Motorsports Association, said the demand for karting and sim racing has increased locally. She added that sim racing provides an opportunity for students to participate remotely and widen their social networks. “The demand for Karting – real permanent kart track/race track, plus Sim racing, which is now Olympic Sports – grew exponentially. We were invited to participate at the IOC’s E-Sports Olympics with the finals in Singapore for June.”
