PMW reports that Capgemini has renewed its partnership with Peugeot Sport to continue developing the 9X8 Hypercar for the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). The collaboration aims not only to enhance the hypercar’s performance with AI but also to reduce Peugeot Sport’s total carbon footprint.
Since 2022, Capgemini has been supporting Peugeot Sport, and more broadly Stellantis Motorsport, in its decarbonization initiative. The first stage involved calculating the carbon footprint of the motorsport ecosystem: from vehicles on the track to parts and team logistics, as well as the organization of sporting events. Around 30 actions were identified to reduce emissions by 2030. After theoretical phases, practical implementation is now underway.

Phinia has announced a partnership with sports car and motor racing company Alpine to support Alpine in the development of its Alpenglow hydrogen-powered prototype. Phinia has supplied its DI-CHG direct hydrogen injectors and associated driver technology, which will help to “power Alpine’s vision for a zero-emission future with the Alpenglow”, the company said. Racecar Engineering looks into the details of the Le Mans H24EVO hydrogen racer switch to liquid storage. “One major reason for switching from gas to liquid storage is that the latter has a greater power density, meaning increased power from the same size of fuel cell.” Read their full analysis here.

Green Car Reports explores the Ford Mustang Mach-E NASCAR EV and gets into the details on what powers the racecar.
The three-motor powertrain and 78-kwh battery pack match the top-level specs given for a generic electric SUV prototype NASCAR first showed in 2023. That prototype, which also featured sustainable bodywork made with flax, hinted at a path forward for making the series greener, in keeping with a carbon-emission reduction goal adopted in 2023. All current Cup Series manufacturers also sell electric SUVs—Ford has the Mach-E, Chevrolet has the Blazer EV, and Toyota has the bZ4X—so rebranding for each won’t be an issue.

Racecar Engineering looks at how motorsport helped the E1 electric boat series to launch. “Given the specific requirements of the boat, I went very straightforward to suppliers and partners I knew I could trust in terms of delivering in a short time and matching our key performance indicators. In the marine industry, there is no supplier of these fields at the level of automotive and motorsport.” You can read more here.
