Sim Racer Suellio Almeida has been crowned 2024 Radical North America Cup champion proving once again that sim racing can lead to real-world motorsport success. In addition to this news, this week’s edition of the Sim Racing Roundup brings new details on a global ROKiT Racing Star competition, how an F2 team is using a simulator for training and another chance to win a Prodigy Pass!
From Sim Racing to the Real Thing
Here is yet more proof that sim racing can real world racing success as sim racer Suellio Almeida has been crowned 2024 Radical North America Cup champion in the Pro 1340 class. “This is a life-changing achievement and in the very first day we already received several offers to race GT3, GT4, LMP3, the list goes crazy. This is proof that sim racing technique can be translated to real life and that sim racing can be a strong training tool to real life drivers.”
Esports and Gaming Business talked with Jonathan Kendrick, the executive Producer and co-creator of ROKiT Racing Star and ROKiT Industries Chairman about how ROKiT Racing Star melded esports and racing into a powerful docu-series and the plans for a global ROKiT Racing Star competition.
ROKiT Flix is available across the globe, which made it a no-brainer to open up the next round of competition to a worldwide pool of sim-driving talent. Additionally, getting into motorsport can be very challenging from a socio-economic perspective, so we feel extremely privileged to offer aspiring sim-drivers from all walks of life an opportunity to literally get into the driver’s seat and truly democratize the experience of competitive racing.
The fact that our own Deagan Fairclough has become the most successful race winner in Formula 4 history, is proof that there is massive potential to uncover. The number one thing I believe will surprise viewers is the sheer size of the motorsport and sim-driving community, and how diverse the next season of the series will be. Our next season will showcase five promising sim-drivers, and we imagine the selection process – with so many interested and talented young people – being the most challenging part. We’re thrilled at the level of interest in participating on future seasons of the series, and the opportunity to find the world’s next ROKiT Racing Star.
Dynisma Ltd. has signed an agreement with Rodin Motorsport to supply its “ground-breaking, world-leading simulator technology” to the F2 team for their multi-faceted racing efforts.
Rodin Motorsport will utilize its DMG-1 simulator as a powerful engineering tool for vehicle setup, performance optimization, and driver preparation across all racetracks and series in which it competes. Additionally, the simulator will play a key role in accelerating race car development ahead of the 2025 season.
F2 Team Manager, Benn Huntingford said: “Having a simulator on site of the standard of DMG-1 is going to be a game changer internally for how we approach our seasons. Not only will we be able to continue our push with our driver preparation but it allows us the opportunity to really look at our car set up and evaluate things in a landscape where testing just isn’t possible.
“We’ve already seen from Callum [Voisin] testing the simulator that it is an incredibly useful tool so we’re very much looking forward to working with Dynisma and getting the simulator on site next year.”
Earlier this year Mobil 1 and Forza Motorsport gave gamers the chance to pit themselves against professionals with the “Legend vs. Leaderboard Rival Events” series. Players could see if they could lap the game’s Maple Valley Raceway on the Xbox game faster than three-time NASCAR Cup champion Tony Stewart and Indy NXT race winner Jamie Chadwick. Now 2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button has joined the fray.
The challenge, which is part of Mobil 1’s ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations, once again takes place on Maple Valley — a fictional track that’s been a mainstay of the Forza Motorsport franchise — with the 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint the car of choice. RACER has all the details.
