From Sim Racing to the Real Thing

BS+COMPETITION is set to make its mark in the NASCAR Euro Series by partnering with Bremotion, the first German team to win an official NASCAR race. The BS+BREMOTION project will see Garrett Lowe, multiple-time race winner in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series and the Prodigy Racing League regular-season champion, step into real-world stock car racing across Europe.

Lowe will compete in the Pro category, piloting the #99 Chevrolet Camaro EuroNASCAR, while Dominique Schaak takes the wheel in the Open category. Together, they form a dynamic duo set to challenge the European NASCAR grid. The car will sport the unmistakable zebra livery, a BS+COMPETITION trademark, symbolizing the seamless fusion of esports and real-world racing.

Florian Haasper, CEO of BS+COMPETITION: “Garrett Lowe is the perfect example of how sim racing talent translates to real-world success. From winning in eNASCAR with us to leading the Prodigy Racing League standings, his next step into the NASCAR Euro Series is a natural progression. Partnering with Bremotion allows us to push the boundaries of what’s possible between virtual and real racing. The support from the NASCAR Euro Series organizers, particularly Jerome Galpin and his team, has been invaluable in making this project happen. The same goes for Garrett’s partners Nitro Concepts, MOZA Racing, MAHLE and the SimRacing Expo.”

Motion racing simulator

Moving a cockpit around isn’t the goal of a motion simulator. When motion doesn’t replicate how a car moves, it’s no surprise that many pro drivers, including the 4-time champ Max Verstappen, have dismissed it. For 16 years, SimCraft have been changing minds—one champion at a time and Co-Founder and CTO of SimCraft Sean Patrick MacDonald would love the opportunity to change another!

“Max’s experience with motion simulators is limited to those he has driven and what he believes is accessible to the general public. While forming an opinion based on personal experience is understandable, it’s critically important to recognize that not all motion simulators are created equal – in fact, most motion racing simulators are inaccurate! The reality is, all real-life cars move according to the same laws of physics, yet nearly every motion simulator today, from consumer-grade to multi-million-dollar systems, fails to replicate that motion correctly.”

Robert Wickens

After completing his first laps around Sebring International Raceway in a specially adapted Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, and in between a more rigorous second day of testing at the circuit, Robert Wickens reflected on his first experiences as the countdown to his much-anticipated IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship return with DXDT Racing on the Long Beach street circuit on how sim training played a part in that preparation.

But even before driving his new Corvette Z06 GT3.R for the first time in earnest, Wickens has been preparing at home, using his custom-built racing simulator setup to get ready for driving a GT3 car for the first time in actual competition.

“Racing on my home simulator, not only is it very fun, but it made my dexterity and my resolution of my hand, for throttle application in particular, just stronger and stronger. And I think after driving this Corvette Z06, I feel like the next step for me is actually to start doing more throttle application with my right hand, just to build that muscle memory,” Wickens said, comparing his home simulator to the real car. “My brake that I use on my home simulator is very different to what we have in the race car, but for throttle purpose, I think it’s very helpful.”

TechSparx has a profile of simulation technology firm Dynisma. “I founded Dynisma with the idea that we could create better performance than the current generation of driver simulator technologies,” says Warne, an alumnus of the Insider 42 under 42 list. “I started out by building a prototype at home to prove that we could create a system that had higher bandwidth and lower latency than what was on the market, and these elements are still the USPs that we have with Dynisma’s products today.”

After getting autographs Thursday morning from the Mustang Challenge Series Drivers, some took the challenge to test their driving skills on a racing simulator.

The Ford Performance Display, in the Paddock near the drive-over bridge, sported three simulators that not only put fans behind the wheel, but offered the feeling of being jostled in their seat as they navigate the simulated track at high speed.

The sign at the entryway to the simulators gives a fair warning: “The Ford Racing Experience simulators are not for the faint of heart. Pounding terrain, radical turns, and unpredictable physical demands will challenge riders.”
