Future motorsport technologies that will transform the sport is just one of the features in this week’s Sustainable Motorsport Roundup. I also have a hint on what is to come from Lola Cars, the difficulties in manufacturing a truly sustainable fuel and a cool pair of sneakers that you can buy made from recycled motorsport race tire rubber!

In the second part of Motorsport Week’s exclusive interview with Till Bechtolsheimer, the Lola chairman reveals more detail about the signing of rookie sensation Zane Maloney, and the Formula E team’s realistic expectations for the remainder of Season 11. He also hints at what’s next for the resurrected motorsport marque.
“We haven’t announced anything. Obviously, other than Formula E at this point, but I’m confident you’ll be hearing new announcements from us in 2025 about incremental projects,” he said. Read the full interview here.
The latest edition of Motorsport UK Magazine Revolution details the British Kart Championship tire recycling program as it aims to make karting more sustainable. You can read about the program here.

Motorsport has always been synonymous with competition, innovation, and technological breakthroughs. However, in the face of growing climate challenges and the global energy transition, this dynamic industry must find a new path forward. The key to this transformation lies in combining mentoring with green education—two driving forces that can ensure a harmonious blend of performance and environmental responsibility.
Through educational and mentoring programs, future generations of engineers, drivers, and managers can acquire knowledge about emerging technologies and learn how to apply them in motorsports. But is motorsport fully utilizing this potential? Or are there still crucial elements missing? Read more in Maja Czarzasty-Zybert analysis here.

The Compound Monte Carlo C1 is the first sneaker made from genuine motorsport race tire rubber. Designed in the UK and handcrafted in Portugal, its re-engineered outsole features tires raced by iconic teams like Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren, blended with recycled TPU for performance and sustainability. Sustainable Motorsport Tech

Maja Czarzasty-Zybert looks into what types of technologies will transform motorsport by 2030. “Hydrogen is another key player. While the future of passenger cars leans towards electrification, hydrogen offers unique possibilities in motorsport—fast refueling, long range, and zero emissions. Hydrogen-powered race cars are already being tested in Le Mans, and the FIA is introducing programs to support this technology’s development. By 2030, we may see a fully hydrogen-powered racing series.”

SailGP has extended its partnership with Aggreko for an additional three seasons, with the energy solutions provider continuing as the Championship’s temporary power supplier. Throughout the partnership, SailGP and Aggreko have introduced alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and B100 biodiesel, doubling the number of clean energy-powered events between Season 3 and Season 4.

Series News

Last week I looked at the calls for Formula 1 to return to V10 engines but powered entirely by sustainable fuel. The following two articles look at the issue with one explaining how it is taking attention away from the 2026 hybrid engines and the other discussing the difficulties in creating a truly sustainable fuel.

Formula E’s title sponsor ABB has extended its deal as the series’ official charging supplier until at least 2030. The new chargers will be fitted with lighter cables and receive updated software for greater dependability and each existing charger will be fully serviced and refurbished, avoiding unnecessary emissions.
