The Ford Mustang GT3 is set for on-track testing at Sebring International Raceway this week for what is believed to be the first major test outing for the Blue Oval’s new GT3 challenger. Ford Performance global motorsports director Mark Rushbrook previously told Sportscar365 that testing for the Multimatic-built car was due to begin in the opening months of the year, utilizing two cars and undertaking running in both North America and Europe.
The current generation of LMP2 cars will continue to be eligible for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship until the end of the 2025 season.
“To enable current and potential future participants to properly plan ahead, IMSA today confirmed that the LMP2 class with the current generation cars will continue to be eligible in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship through the end of the 2025 season. Specific details on IMSA’s future plans for LMP3 eligibility within IMSA sanctioned series will be announced by June 1, 2023.”
Continuing down the path of exposing the Series to others, the Spec MX-5 Challenge have announced a $1,000.00 cash prize for the move of the year.
“More details to follow shortly, but it will involve sharing your favorite passes, accident avoidance maneuvers and other in car excitement to your Instagram and YouTube pages. Voting will be done online at the end of the season and awarded at the 2023 National Championship event by representatives of MiataCage.com who is sponsoring the cash prize.”
Single-Seaters
In a feature on Feeder Series, Tatuus CEO Gianfranco de Bellis talks about the future of the company as well as their new Formula Regional car and what is to come with Eurocup-3.
“The FIA is making a lot of aerodynamical studies with a lot of simulations for the future rules of the Formula Regional Gen2 car. There is a lot of work to be done on the front wing, the endplates, the rear wing, et cetera. We know that the Gen2 will have to allow drivers to get closer to each other, to allow them to overtake in better ways. We will be going in a bit the same direction as the technical revolution F1 had in 2022. Not with the same ground effect – we will stay with the same concept of aerodynamics.”
“For sure, you will see some preview of the Gen2 in Eurocup-3. It’s not complete of course, but I would say there will be an anticipation of the Formula Regional Gen2 car – an anticipation in order to win some downforce, to help the driver to follow the car in front in the corners.
Open Formula Challenge, the series for Formula Regional and Formula 4 cars in China launched last year, has announced plans for a five-round season in 2023. Top Speed plans for the same event format of two qualifying sessions and two races lasting 23 minutes plus one lap to be used in 2023, with the target for F4 cars to fill the secondary class. There is already a national F4 championship in China.
Touring Cars
The Pau street circuit will replace the Red Bull Ring round in an amended 2023 TCR Europe calendar. The change does not affect the TCR World Tour calendar, which will join TCR Europe for three events, Portimão, Spa and Hungaroring.
Macau’s Motor Sports Authority AAMC, the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee and WSC Group are working together to finalize the agreement to make the Macau Guia Race become the final event of the 2023 KUMHO TCR World Tour.
