Racecraft Tips & Techniques
On-Track
In the video above, Blayze Coaching discusses understanding the role of braking in the wet.
Terence Dove of On Racing Drivers by Terence Dove discusses the principles he uses when working with drivers. “If you work with drivers, or you’re a parent, it won’t take long to realise your driver does not care what you say, but also continues to make the same mistakes. Here’s how I manage to get through it.”

Grassroots Motorsports explains the apps you need to turn your smartphone into a data acquisition system. “That’s right, your smartphone can double as a pretty solid data system with the aid of a few apps that cost less than you probably paid for gas for a single track session.”

Robert Wickens is set to continue his journey and move up to the IMSA SportsCar Championship with DXDT Racing Corvette in 2025. The Corvette he will pilot this upcoming season is specifically equipped with a new electronic hand-brake control system from Bosch.
“This is the opportunity I have been seeking for quite a while now, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support from [DXDT Racing owner] David Askew at DXDT, Bosch and General Motors,” said Wickens.

For the third round of the 2024 North America Porsche Endurance Challenge, Patrick Dempsey heads to Sonoma Raceway in California. Coming off what could be described as a challenging second round at Road America which was full of highs and lows, Dempsey looks to continue his reeducation behind the wheel and to improve upon the previous round’s performance. Will Sonoma be clean and easy or will similar challenges arise? Only one way to find out!
Off-Track
In the video above, Enzo Mucci explains how to overcome the mental barriers you have that is preventing you from delivering your best lap times. “We often stand in our own way when it comes to being at our best on track. It’s time to start focusing on how you can help yourself perform, as you can perform. Step aside and let the real you step forward.”
In “The Other Guy,” The Installation Lap looks on the psychological effect of having a faster teammate and how you can deal with it.
Nearly every year, some driver or drivers on the F1 grid suffer this brutal and devastating psychological journey. For most, it is a survivable though painful realization. The psychological blow is often softened because only one or two cars on the grid can compete for the championship in any given year. So, if you’re fighting for P15, the fact that the guy in the next garage beat you isn’t necessarily your biggest problem. However, this journey into darkness is all too real for an unlucky few.

Thinking of going endurance racing? Grassroots Motorsports resources and tips for those looking to go endurance racing in North America.
“Today’s endurance racing scene offers peak amateur road course racing with real wheel-to-wheel competition on closed circuits, often at famous road courses that you otherwise might never get to drive on. The various series each have multiple classes, usually based on power, weight, cost and/or some semblance of lap time capability.”

Many motorsport enthusiasts want to go wheel-to-wheel racing, but the path from where they are to where they want to be can be challenging. It’s not just a monetary issue, either. In recent years, Region-led SCCA Drivers’ Schools have gone from plentiful to few and far between, making it a challenge for those on the outside looking in. Recently, though, SCCA introduced (or reintroduced, depending on how you look at it) the Race Experience, and Grassroots Motorsports was there to take it in. Read more at the SCCA website.
Racers from 1991-2000 are newly eligible for historic competition, raising hopes that the Formula 3000 category which prepared drivers, engineers and team bosses for Formula 1 could return in some form. But hurdles remain if its 40th anniversary season is to be marked. Autosport looks into it.
“The problem is essentially twofold; in addition to there being nowhere for them to race, which Edgington attributes to cut-off dates and UK noise restrictions, steep costs can be offputting. As Sowter explains, “while the cost of entry in terms of your initial purchase of F3000 is less, the cost of running and maintaining one is the same as a Formula 1 car”. The investment involved may easily dissuade potential F3000 owners and push them towards owning an F1 car instead.”
Now taking orders for 2025 and beyond, Chicago Performance has announced that the long awaited KTM X-BOW GT-XR is coming to North America, but in a slightly different configuration than in Europe.
Whilst the KTM X-BOW GT-XR is designed for street use in Europe and the rest of the world markets, it will not be street-legal here in the United States. This is due in part to the complexities of achieving US standards when it comes to things like air bags and emissions requirements. These obstacles may yet be overcome in the future, but KTM & Chicago Performance did not want to deter potential track-focused customers any longer.

SRO America has been cognizant of balancing its own multi-class championships with emerging single-make series from manufacturer partners over event weekends according to President and CEO Greg Gill.
“Every series that runs events always looks to what can be done if there’s any time open on their schedule. ‘Is there another race series that we could run there?’” Gill told Sportscar365.
Few, if any, other cars bring more pure motorsport technology to the road than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The new Manthey Kit can further enhance the on-track performance of this top-of-the-range sports car through improved aerodynamic efficiency, modified suspension and optimised braking components.
Porsche is offering a Manthey Kit for the current 911 GT3 RS (992) for even higher performance on track. The kit provides significantly increased contact pressure and, as a result, higher cornering speeds. The suspension has been specially adapted for driving on the racetrack, while the brakes are optimised for the particularly high demands of track-day driving. The new Manthey Kit was developed as part of a close collaboration between the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach and the Manthey engineers in Meuspath. These track-focused components will be distributed via Porsche Centres.
