We’ve only just scratched the surface of sustainable motorsport and in this week’s edition of the Sustainable Motorsport Roundup you will understand some of the complexities and opportunities facing the sport.

The first-ever sports and sustainability company to receive a King’s Award is aiming to “establish a positivity legacy and meaningful shift” in the sector, its founder Dr. Cristiana Pace said, who spoke with Insider about her journey from F1 engineer to chief executive of Enovation Consulting.
“The transition to sustainability happened organically,” Pace said. “While at the FIA, Max Mosely decided to measure F1’s carbon footprint, and I was tasked with assisting. Once the FIA Institute for Sustainability and Motorsport Safety was founded in 2009, I was asked to take part. It wasn’t until 2012, when I moved to Williams F1 and worked with FIA Formula E, that I really discovered the passion I have today.”

In October 2024, TDK forged a technology partnership with the legendary British motorsport team McLaren Racing. This collaboration brings together the technological expertise of both companies toward the shared goal of driving innovation and sustainability in the automotive field. On May 17 and 18, 2025, Tokyo E-Prix—one of the world’s premier electric Formula racing events—was held in Ariake, Tokyo, offering huge crowds a firsthand glimpse into the future of electric mobility. The National Trust’s historic landscape gardens and parkland at Stowe has teamed up with its neighbours at Silverstone Circuit on a project to create a nature superhighway.
Silverstone and Stowe Gardens plan to work together to generate funds to upgrade the four-mile parkland trail at Stowe, which is approximately the same length as Silverstone’s Grand Prix circuit. Silverstone has kick started the fundraising efforts with a generous donation of £50k which will help get the project up and running this June. This nature superhighway will create new habitats, increase biodiversity, improve access and create sustainable visitor facilities along its route. Eventually the two organisations want to enable green and active travel between their respective sites.
The language of sustainability is changing – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Despite quite a bit of anxiety in the sustainability community about the geopolitical landscape, Matthew Campelli from the Sustainability Huddle came away from this month’s UEFA Respect Forum in Zürich feeling pretty encouraged by what he experienced.
“If we want progress, how we talk about sustainability matters. At the forum, hosted by European football’s governing body (read more about the event here), sustainability was generally framed through three lenses: reducing risks, building resilience and creating value.”

A renewable park and solar farm venture is set to benefit Knockhill Racing Circuit if planning application approval is granted. Knockhill, committed to increasing its sustainability, already utilizes low-carbon fuels, energy-efficient lighting, and two on-site electric vehicle chargers across the circuit, karting, and off-road areas.
“If approved, the renewable energy park proposition presents the possibility for these efforts to be accelerated, with potential initiatives including on-site solar generation to curtail the circuit’s operational costs and environmental impact while simultaneously enhancing electric vehicle charging facilities.”

The world’s most powerful motorsport is offsetting their carbon emissions, with the help of Carbon Positive Motorsport. “Underscoring their commitment to environmental responsibility, the North West Tractor Pulling Club (NWTPC) successfully offset 8 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2024, marking the second year of their partnership with Carbon Positive Motorsport. In addition, the STPC and UK Truck and Tractor Pull have also offset their events with us, meaning that all British Tractor Pulling Association Championship events are now offsetting their unavoidable carbon emissions.”
