This week you will find out what it feels like to race against Max Verstappen in sim racing. I also have a comparison between sim racing and the real thing, how a sim racer went on to engineer a Supercar and a new sim racing competition featuring the Mustang GT3. All this and much more in this week’s Sim Racing Roundup.
From Sim Racing to the Real Thing
The PR piece Sim.Racing vs. traditional motorsport racing: A comparison does a good job of laying out the similarities and differences between sim racing and real-world motorsport. Although it does not mention the “fear factor,” it is implied.
“In traditional motorsport, physical presence plays a central role. Drivers have to deal with real physical forces generated by speed and acceleration. A driver’s sensory system is heavily taxed as they have to react to immediate changes in the environment.”
PremiAir Nulon Racing competition boss Ludo Lacroix has handed the reins of Tim Slade’s Chevrolet Supercar to an online racer turned engineer in Tasmania. Data Engineer Andrew Gilliam has been handed the Race Engineer by Lacroix, who oversaw Slade’s entry in recent rounds following the departure of Mirko De Rosa.
Now an influential figure in the real world, Gilliam is also known in sim racing circles, previously driving for Tickford Racing and Matt Stone Racing in Supercars’ eSeries. You can read more about him here.
YouTube star and Nürburgring specialist Misha Charoudin joined last weekend’s NXT Gen Cup round in Germany as a guest driver. You can see how he did at the NXT Gen Cup website.
Competitive Sim Racing News
Virtual2Reality.tv Platform has launched a sim racing competition called the Emustang Champion Series 2024 using the new Ford Performance Mustang GT3 at Watkins Glen which they feel is a fantastic car and track combination. The event will take place at 10 sim centers in 8 states with plans to grow the concept to more in the future. Full details can be found at the Virtual2Reality.tv website.

Sim Racing Tips & Techniques
In the video above, Daniel Morad explains how a pro racing driver sets up buttons for the sim.
“It’s not the amount of buttons you have… it’s how you use them! This is a detailed walk through of my button layout on my racing simulator. I try to place the important buttons I use in the real race car in the same place as my sim to enhance muscle memory and subconscious programming.
Radio button, headlight flash and pit speed limiter button are some of the more important and frequently used buttons so I have those in the same spot as the real car. There are a lot of buttons and options here, so hopefully this gives you some ideas and can help inspire you to set up your sim in a similar way, regardless of how many buttons you have.”
