Motorsport Series News for May 4, 2022-The Huracan GT3 EVO2 is Here

This week in Motorsport Series News I bring you news about the brand new for 2023 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, the Nissan Z goes endurance racing, a new spec Miata MX-5 series in the Philippines and more.

Sportscar & Touring Car News

• The big news this week is that Lamborghini has launched their new Huracan GT3 EVO2 for a debut next year. “Developed by Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse racing department, the Huracan GT3 EVO2 sports new aerodynamic features compared to its predecessor in line with the FIA’s 2022 GT3 regulations refresh, as well as a new air intake system.” Sportscar365 has all the details plus some more great pictures of both the exterior and interior of the car.

• Porsche will allocate a maximum of four LMDh customer cars in addition to its quartet of factory-run examples next year according to the manufacturer’s Head of Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach. “There is a restriction where we have said that the maximum would be two in the IMSA championship and two in WEC. Definitely not more.”

• Speaking of Porsche, Sportscar 365+ went behind the scenes at the recent Porsche LMDh multi-day test at Spa Francorchamps. “A major part of the test was gathering data for Michelin, which had brought two service trucks and two mobile offices. As the sole supplier for LMDh and LMH, Michelin has been eager to work with Porsche to validate its product.”

• NOLA Motorsports Park will replace Ozarks International Raceway on the SRO America and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America schedules, officials confirmed last Wednesday. “Yesterday we concluded that we could not produce the desired quality event in the limited time available. We are appreciative of NOLA for being able to step in to maintain our schedule.”

• According to Road & Track, Nissan’s Nismo division has just announced plans to field two fully prepped Zs at an upcoming 24-hour race at Fuji Speedway. “Nissan says it’s fielding these two cars to explore the possibility of using the new Z in more motorsport categories in the future. It plans to collect data during the race and will compete in the Super Taikyu Series’ ST-Q class—an exhibition class specifically for development cars—on June 4-5 at Fuji.”

• The Philippines-based MSCC Miata Spec Series is finally getting the green light this 2022 with 20 brand-new track-tuned Mazda MX-5s confirmed for their first race in June. According to C! Magazine, “a total of 20 brand new Mazda MX-5 Spec cars have been prepped and ready to go on June 11 at Clark International Speedway. There will be a total of 4 race weekends, slated for August 27, October 22, and November 26. Each car will be driven by an MCC member.” Time Attack Manila has further details.

• Motorsport Australia and WSC Ltd have agreed to a further five-year extension of the TCR rights in Australia. Motorsport Australia remains the rights holder for the category in Australia, with the Australian Racing Group (ARG) currently holding a separate Commercial Rights Agreement with Motorsport Australia to run and promote the category down under as the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

• Velocity News tracks the rise of TA2 racing in New Zealand. “Fan of the word or not, parity is a big reason behind the TA2’s formula success. Every car is identical in powertrain, gearbox and chassis specs.”

Single-Seater News

• Despite previously denying that they would replace it, Formula 2 boss Bruno Michel is now “working to replace Sochi” to return to a huge 14-round calendar in 2022. “Talking about the number of races on the calendar, we’re working to replace Sochi, and I think we’ll be able to announce something quite soon,” Michel said in a roundtable with selected media including Formula Scout.

• The city of Sao Paulo, Brazil has signed an agreement to host a round of the Formula E Championship. “We can’t wait to welcome the Brazilian fans, they are like no other and there is sure to be a lively, unique atmosphere as the fans enjoy Formula E racing with the leap forward in technology and performance we are going to see with Gen3.”
