The Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s simulator set-up is just one of the topics covered in this week’s Sim Racing Roundup. I also have more detail on Lewis Hamilton’s lack of interest in sim training, the latest tech news and more!
Overview
From Sim Racing to the Real Thing
This $5K Sim Is Almost As Fast As $50K
A $5,000 sim rig went head-to-head with Daniel Morad’s $50,000 setupโฆ and what happened completely changed how he looks at sim racing gear.
I put both rigs to the test to see what actually makes you faster and how close a more affordable setup can get to a top-tier system and even a real race car.
I tested the Conspit setup using the CPP Evo 2 pedals, ARES Platinum 20Nm wheelbase, and the 300GT wheel. Right away, the precision stands out, especially for the price point. I have since updated the firmware to V1.0.8 and have noticed an even smoother experience.
The biggest difference comes down to the brake pedal. The pressure feels realistic, but the lack of travel changes how you approach braking compared to higher-end systems and real-world cars.
One thing to note is that i did not feel any flex in my quick releases and this system for the steering wheel connection was solid.
Even with limited running, this was a really strong test of how competitive this level of gear can be.
At the end of the day, a lot of it comes down to driver skill.
Cadillac Formula 1 Team Selects Dynisma to Supply Advanced Driving Simulator Technology

Dynisma Ltd., a leading UK-based motion simulator technology company, has been selected by the Cadillac Formula 1 Team to supply its DMG-360XY driving simulator, supporting the teamโs continued investment in the innovative technology and infrastructure required to be competitive in topflight motorsport.
The simulator will be installed at the Cadillac Formula 1 Teamโs growing US base in Indianapolis, Indiana, a key part of the teamโs expanding multi-site operation. The addition of Dynismaโs DMG-360XY, combined with the latest LED wall visualisation technology, represents a further investment in technical capability as Formula 1 continues through a new regulatory era in 2026, bringing fundamental changes to car behaviour, power unit characteristics and aerodynamic performance.

Smedley Reveals Ferrari ‘Guys’ Response to Hamilton Ditching Simulator Work

I mentioned this last week but Felipe Massa’s former race engineer, Rob Smedley, said he had asked around inside the Ferrari garage about Lewis Hamilton’s approach to simulator work, only to be met with ‘shrugged shoulders’ in response.
“He said that he didn’t – he refused to go and do his work on the simulator in Canada. And that’s what gave him the freedom because he thinks that the simulator was perhaps dragging him in directions that he didn’t like. So he said, ‘I’m not going to do it this time.’ And then, of course, he has a sample size of one. All of a sudden, it’s statistically true that if you don’t go on the simulator, you’re on the podium.”.
