Racecraft Tips & Techniques

On-Track

Want to drive faster? Try this simple mindset technique according to Enzo Mucci. “The way to get the most out of yourself is not as complicated as you think. It’s all about simplifying and executing.”

Can ai accurately analyse your motorsports data? Sample data for the test.

Samir Abid of Your Data Driven has built a custom GPT that can take a screenshot of your data and give you an analysis. From his recent newsletter: “It’s experimental (so treat the results with caution), but if you’ve ever wondered whether AI could be useful to you today — not in some far-off future — this is your chance to find out.”

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pull up your lap data.
  2. Get the key channels on screen (speed, lat g, long g, combined g, lap times).
  3. Take a screenshot.
  4. Paste it into the GPT.
  5. Read analysis & Go faster.

Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are contrasting characters – but neither will fade quietly according to Alex Kalinauckas of The Athletic.

In a recent Speed Secrets column, Ross Bentley wonders id you should you use a GPS throttle. “Then, I received an email asking me for advice regarding the timing of applying the throttle when exiting a corner. The driver used a clever term to describe what he felt he consistently did—begin to apply the throttle at the same place every lap, no matter the track conditions. He called it “GPS throttle” (a term that I’m going to borrow from him, because it’s the perfect way to describe this), and I immediately understood what he was talking about.”

On episode 235 of Inside the SCCA presented by RaceSchool.com they talk about veteran drivers and coaching. “Our guest is Matt Treglia from RaceSchool.com – he gives us his insights on the benefits of coaching even if you have been racing for decades. There are some great nuggets in this show to help you go faster. This week’s tech tip presented by Babyface Fabrication well keep you from bleeding all over your race car.” You can watch the episode above.

Grassroots Motorsports focuses on the sometimes counterintuitive or even nonsensical ways that brake release can affect corner entry. They explain that faster lap times could simply require proper brake release.

Motorsport is primarily a ‘mindset-dependent’ sport, and we’re not just talking about having a “winning mindset.” The way you approach every phase of activity on and off track, the mental preparation, and achieving psychophysical balance play a primary role in the life of an athlete, especially if they are young. Vroom Karting goes inside the driver’s mind and body for a deep dive into motorsports psychophysical training.

The updated version of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, which was first announced back in April, has been refined “in numerous key areas,” with the primary focus on optimizing suspension and aerodynamic with the goal of improving handling and drivability for gentleman drivers in particular.

“Our focus for this update was on optimisation. Small changes can make a big difference when built on a solid, proven foundation,” says Sebastian Golz, Project Manager Porsche 911 GT3 R. “Driver feedback after the first race outing during the development phase in April confirmed our direction. We’re confident this evolution will allow our customer teams to continue competing successfully across the globe.”

Porsche 911 Cup

Porsche also unveils the new 911 Cup – the latest evolution of its one-make cup racing car for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, the various Carrera Cup championships, and other Porsche-sanctioned series. This new model will line up on the grid from the start of the 2026 season. Based on the 992.2 generation of the 911, the latest edition of the acclaimed predecessor features numerous detailed refinements.

Development efforts focused on enhancing performance, maintaining reasonable operating costs, and simplifying handling for both drivers and teams. The naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine now delivers an increased output of 382 kW (520 PS), a ten PS increase.

Gibson Technology has confirmed the engine layout and suppliers for the spec powertrain that all LMP2 cars will use from 2028. The next-generation LMP2 cars will be powered by a 3.4-litre direct-injected, twin-turbocharged Nissan V6 engine.

With the introduction of the Performance Factor, Hill Climb has become more inclusive, accessible, and better structured. Here’s how the FIA changed the game in the European Hill Climb Championship.

Euroformula is committed to continuing being an alternative to FIA F3 for drivers based in Europe, but there’s now another Spanish-run third-tier single-seater series on the continent seeking the same market space. Formula Scout explains.

Daily Sportscar reports that major road resurfacing work with a new high-performance pavement began last month on the Mulsanne Straight from the Daytona Chicane to Mulsanne Corner. “The surface used is a thin asphalt overlay with “outstanding mechanical properties.” This type of asphalt, specially designed for race circuits, comprises high quality aggregate and a special bitumen to guarantee grip and consistency. The mix must be carefully applied at temperatures of over 5°C to ensure an optimum result.”

The addition of a Hypercar class in the Asian Le Mans Series would make “zero sense” without awarding the series champion with an automatic invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans according to AO Racing team principal Gunnar Jeannette. “What I would think would make sense is, you already have the ‘privateer’ class in the WEC. Open that up to Bronze guys,” said Jeannette.

After a successful debut season that merged the thrill of time trials competition with the adventure of an epic road trip, SCCA’s Targa program returns for 2026. “At this point, the big message is we’re hoping to drop a full schedule as soon as possible, or at least announce a date for any spring events in the next couple weeks,” says SCCA Targa manager Heyward Wagner. “The success of the 2025 events and the overwhelmingly positive feedback we got on the program this year pretty much guaranteed that the program would continue.”
