General Motorsport Industry News

Last week I mentioned that Carlos Sainz Sr was thinking of running for FIA president. Now current FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is reportedly suggesting amendments to the organization’s regulations that may enhance his authority, as a confidential document outlining these changes has leaked out. The plans, which will be reviewed at the upcoming FIA General Assembly, include provisions that could limit presidential election candidates, and increase his influence over the FIA Senate’s membership.
He has also announced that he has revised his position on the controversial swearing ban he recently announced after “extensive consultations” leaving current F1 drivers wondering if the change is just a re-election ploy in a chaotic FIA.

In another motorsport athlete contract squabble, Alpine tried to “bully” Oscar Piastri into driving for the team in 2023 prior to losing out on his services to McLaren in Formula 1, according to CEO Zak Brown. “They did not even ask him,” Brown told Mail Sport. “They put the statement out as if it was a done deal.
