F1 Business Summit to Debut in Vegas

Formula One will race in Las Vegas until at least 2027 after the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) agreed to extend its sponsorship agreement. “The length of extensions don’t really reflect anything other than it just makes sense incrementally, we know what’s going to happen over the next couple of years,” Steve Hill, chief executive and president of the LVCVA said.

While the LVCVA have highlighted the “Vegas value” of the race, Vantage goes into detail on why the race is attractive to the city and to F1, despite its many detractors. “Demographic insights reveal key drivers. F1 fans tend to come from higher-income groups, which are less affected by economic shifts. Nielsen data on similar events supports this, showing 15% higher spend rates among dedicated followers.”

Both Portugal and Germany have indicated that they want to get back on the F1 calendar while Malaysia regrets letting the race go. “We do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past,” he said. “We let Formula 1 go and now it is very hard to get it back. I hope we don’t make the same mistake with MotoGP.” In light of these requests, Motorsport Week asks, will F1’s rotational calendar allow more iconic tracks to return?

Ex-Formula 1 team Caterham could return to the grid in 2027, backed by 24-year-old Kuwaiti entrepreneur Saad Kassis-Mohamed and his investment firm, SKM Capital. Kassis-Mohamed, named last year on Forbes’ ‘30 Under 30’ list in the Social Influence category, has earmarked €280 million for the venture. “Formula 1 is a disciplined engineering competition with a predictable cost framework,” said Marcine Graham, Managing Partner of SKM Capital, in a press release announcing the project.

NASCAR has claimed that it pays a higher percentage of its operating income to its teams than Formula One in its latest legal response to 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports (FRM) but Denny Hamlin thinks that NASCAR makes horrible business decisions.

“We’ve just steadily progressed our way back and back and back and back and taken horsepower away more and more and more. These are 10th floor decisions and let’s just say us drivers are on the third floor. No business is immune to bad decisions. I think that the NASCAR business has made some horrible decisions over the last given amount of time and eventually, it catches up.”

In other NASCAR news, the series has unveiled its 2026 schedule, a schedule that Greg Engle of Forbes thinks is more like refinement than reinvention. “At the end of it all, there is no real “wow” in the 2026 schedule. It’s a little Southern California sun, a little more nostalgia, and no need for a passport.”

Fox’s $135M stake in IndyCar is more than a cash infusion—it’s a broadcast-backed bet on long-term fan growth. Viewership is up 31%, and the media model is shifting. Vantage explains why this deal could reshape open-wheel racing in the U.S.

Meanwhile, IndyCar officials visited the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City just last week. The series is reportedly working alongside Grupo Rentable on the bid to bring the open-wheel series back to Mexico.

Motorsport UK has opened applicants to register their interest in its Young Officials Taster Day. “This taster day will provide individuals with the opportunity to look at all the Official and Marshal roles which power motorsport events all across the UK.”

Hydrogen in Motorsport with Alpenglow

Hydrogen in motorsport is not yet ready to race but as you will see in this week’s Sustainable Motorsport Roundup, progress towards that goal is strong. I also have an opinion on how climate change is impacting sports, saving water with the Las Vegas Grand Prix and a methanol-powered engine.

Lewis Hamilton has called on Formula 1 to evolve, arguing that drivers are “bound” by restrictive contracts that prevent them from even speaking to rival teams – a system he believes must change to complement the sport’s rapid commercial growth.

“I also think that the F1 system needs to evolve,” he added. “Drivers are bound by contracts that prevent them from talking to other teams. They can’t even talk to other teams. F1 has grown enormously, with revenues skyrocketing from £700 million to over £3 billion. This growth is not reflected in all employees’ salaries, which have not kept pace with the business.”

LawInSport looks at what sports clubs should bear in mind when handling member disciplinary cases. “This article, drawing on the recent case of Rohilla v The Members of Royal Mid Surrey Golf Course[1], will be a helpful reference for anyone involved in running sports clubs, from committee members to club secretaries. It shows why following proper procedures matter when dealing with membership disciplinary matters, and what can go wrong when personal feelings influence decision-making.”

Stake F1 has been forced to change its team name for next weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix due to advertising laws in the Netherlands. Stake—an online gambling company runs afoul of strict advertising regulations in the Netherlands. As a result, Stake F1 is effectively required to modify its name, with sponsor Kick set to feature more prominently on the car at the next round of the 2025 F1 season.

RACER explains how DragonSpeed, a team with no testing, is fighting for an IMSA title. ““Building relationships with OEMs, I think, is the number one target.
